Edwards, Blansit Power Heritage Past LaFayette

Aug 12, 2023

Addie Edwards’ complete game shutout and Ella Blansit’s sixth-inning double would be the difference on Friday night.

LaFayette, Ga. - The Heritage Generals softball team was in a pitcher’s duel on Friday night in LaFayette. Addie Edwards and Rambler starter Olivia Free combined for 13 strikeouts and surrendered only eight total hits in a game where Heritage prevailed, 1-0.

The Generals improve to 2-0 on the season and finish week one of the regular season undefeated. LaFayette falls to 0-2 on the year after a season-opening loss to Sonoraville on Tuesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Heritage offense got its leadoff runner on in four of the first five innings of play but failed to cash in a run. The Generals would end the game with five runners left on base and a .125 (1-for-8) batting average with runners in scoring position.

Brylee Pritchett reached base on an infield single, collecting her first high school hit, and would later pick up her first stolen base to get into scoring position.

A strikeout and a pop out would bring Ella Blansit to the plate with two outs. She would rifle a two-out double into right center field to bring home the go-ahead run. Blansit finished the game 1-for-3, collecting one of the six Heritage hits in the process.

Addie Edwards would make the one-run lead stand after a six-pitch bottom of the sixth inning. She needed just 80 pitches to earn her 18th career complete game.
