Edwards Perfect as Heritage Downs Sonoraville, 4-0

Aug 30, 2023

Addie Edwards tossed the first perfect game in six seasons and tied a season-high with 14 strikeouts to help the Generals to another region win.

RINGGOLD - Addie Edwards tossed the first perfect game of her career and the first since 2017 as the Heritage Generals softball team picked up its third consecutive Region 7-AAAA win over Sonoraville on Tuesday night at the Heritage Softball Complex. HHS used a three-run fourth inning and stout pitching from the junior hurler to take home a 4-0 win.

The Generals improved to 8-1-1 overall and 4-0 in Region 7-AAAA. With the win and Cedartown’s loss to Central, Heritage gains sole possession of first place in the region. Sonoraville drops to 8-4 overall and 3-1 in region play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Heritage scratched across runs in the third and fourth innings to jump ahead of Sonoraville. Landry White doubled to lead off the third inning and came around to score on a wild pitch to break the scoreless tie.

Back-to-back-to-back triples from White, Bree Wilson, and Brylee Pritchett sparked a three-run fourth inning just before a lightning delay paused the action. The trio combined to produce all seven of Heritage’s hits on the evening as Bree Wilson tied a career-high with three hits.

Edwards tied a season-high with 14 strikeouts in what was her fourth complete game of the year. She eclipsed the 300-strikeout mark in her career and vaulted herself into third place all-time in strikeouts with 306. She trails second-placed Marissa Patterson (2008-10) by 89.
