Generals Down Southeast, 9-0, in Run-Rule Win

Dalton, Ga. - The Heritage Generals softball team found its way back on the winning side of things thanks to a 9-0 win over region foe Southeast Whitfield on Thursday night in Dalton.

The win moves Heritage’s overall record to 9-2-1 while their region mark improves to 4-1. Southeast Whitfield suffered its fifth consecutive loss as they dropped to 1-9-1 overall and 0-5 in region play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After managing just one baserunner through the first two innings of play Heritage’s offense found its spark with a four-run third inning. Bailee Hollis broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single to score Abbie Young. Harper Carstens extended the lead on the next pitch with a two-run home run over the left-center field wall.

Heritage continued to add runs in the fourth and fifth innings. A four-run fifth, highlighted by RBI base hits from Jenna Ryans, Landry White, and Bree Wilson, sealed the victory for the Generals.

Kelsey Anderson (4.0 IP, 2 H, 5 SO) and Molly O’Brien (1.0 IP, 1 SO) combined to shut out the Raiders through five innings of play. Anderson improved to 2-2 on the season and earned her 24th career win. 

Bree Wilson extended her hitting streak to four consecutive games, becoming the only General batter with an active hitting streak of four games or more. She also tied a career-high with two RBI matching her total from the Sep. 21 meeting with Southeast Whitfield.

Heritage (9-2-1, 4-1 7-AAAA) begins a busy four-game week on the road at Northwest Whitfield (6-9, 2-2 7-AAAA) on Tuesday, Sep. 12 before returning home to face the Bruins on Thursday, Sep. 14. The Generals will also participate in the SCORE Invitational in Chattanooga with a pair of games against Wesleyan (5:00 p.m.) and Horizon (7:00 p.m.) on Friday, Sep. 15 at Warner Park.
