Generals Improve to 6-1 in Region 7-AAAA With Win Over Northwest

Jenna Ryans (2-for-2, 2 R, RBI) and Harper Carstens (2-for-3, R, RBI) each smacked inside-the-park home runs in the win.

RINGGOLD - The Heritage Generals softball team clinched the regular season series against Northwest Whitfield with a 3-2 win at home on Thursday night.


With the win, the Generals improved to 11-2-1 overall and 6-1 in Region 7-AAAA. The Bruins. Heritage is now 32-13 against Northwest Whitfield since 2012 and has won each of the last 17 matchups.


HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bruins opened the scoring with a solo home run from Jolie Albertson and added a second run with a Paisley Chandler single that scored Lindsey Harris. The first-inning run is the first Heritage has allowed since a three-spot at the hands of Ringgold on Aug. 15. 


Heritage would answer back with a run in the third to trim the deficit to 2-1. A one-out double from Jenna Ryans allowed Brylee Pritchett to bring her home with an RBI triple. It was Pritchett’s sixth RBI of the season through 14 games, which is fourth-best on the team behind Bailee Hollis (9), Harper Carstens, and Macie Collins (7 each).


HHS later tied the game in the fourth thanks to an inside-the-park home run from Harper Carstens. Carstens blasted a line drive past the outstretched arms of the first baseman and scampered all the way around the bases to score the tying run.


Jenna Ryans would give the Generals the lead one inning later with an inside-the-park home run of her own. She would finish 2-for-2 with a pair of extra-base hits and two runs scored.


Addie Edwards earned the win in relief after tossing five scoreless innings with seven strikeouts. She improved to 9-0 and eclipsed the 90-strikeout mark for the season.

UP NEXT

Heritage (10-2-1. 5-1 7-AAAA) will wrap up week six with a Friday night doubleheader as part of the SCORE Tournament at Warner Park in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Generals will square off with defending Class AAA state champion Wesleyan (12-3, 8-1 7-AAA) at 5:00 p.m. and then turn around and face its first out-of-state opponent in Horizon (12-1, 6-0 5A/4A Front Range) from Thornton, Colo. at 7:00 p.m.
