Heritage Opens Elite Eight With Shutout Win

Addie Edwards tossed her third-straight complete-game shutout in the 2-0 victory.

Columbus, Ga. - The Heritage Generals softball team earned a thrilling 2-0 win over defending state champion West Laurens to open the Elite Eight on Wednesday afternoon.


The Generals snapped a four-game Elite Eight losing streak with the win and improved their record to 25-2-1.


HOW IT HAPPENED

Both offenses combined to produce just five hits and 16 strikeouts through the first five innings. Heritage starter Addie Edwards and West Laurens starter Tannah Cobb were able to keep the game a low-scoring affair until Heritage’s sixth-inning offensive outburst.


Bailee Hollis led off the sixth with her third hit of the game in the form of a single. She was sacrificed over to second base by Harper Carstens, giving Heritage a runner in scoring position with one out.


Macie Collins tucked a line drive inside the left field line to score Hollis and break the scoreless tie. Two batters later Jenna Ryans added to the lead with an RBI single to drive in Electra Bowling.


Edwards starred in the circle with another complete-game shutout performance. She extended her scoreless inning streak to 26 with today’s outing, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out 11.

UP NEXT

Heritage (25-2-1, 14-1 7-AAAA) will face Whitewater in the winner’s bracket semi-final on Thursday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in Columbus, Ga. The Wildcats defeated Sonoraville, 2-1, in their opening game.
