Heritage Suffers First Region Loss at Sonoraville

Heritage mustered only five hits as Sonoraville struck for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to shock the Generals.

Calhoun, Ga. - The Heritage Generals softball team suffered its first region loss of the season in a 3-0 setback against Sonoraville on Thursday night.


Heritage falls to 8-2-1 on the season and 3-1 in the region. Sonoraville improves to 9-4 overall and 3-1 in the region, setting up a tie atop Region 7-AAAA with the Generals.


HOW IT HAPPENED

Sonoraville opened the bottom of the sixth inning with a leadoff off the bat of Erin Garland. She would come across to score the go-ahead run after an RBI single from Becca Tippett.


The Phoenix would add to their lead with RBI knocks from Ava Lambert and Lakelin Hall. All three Phoenix runs came with two outs off Heritage starter Kelsey Anderson.


Brylee Pritchett extended her hit streak to ten consecutive games. Her 2-for-4 outing gave her a team-best five multi-hit games on the season and ran her batting average up to .395 (15-for-38).


Bree Wilson finished 2-for-3 at the plate as she continued her hot stretch. She currently leads the team in batting average (.536) and is tied with Pritchett for the team lead in hits (15).


Kelsey Anderson got the start and suffered her second loss of the season. The right-hander allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out three over six innings of work

UP NEXT

Heritage (8-2-1, 3-1 7-AAAA) will take a week off of game action before returning to the diamond to face region foe Southeast Whitfield (1-8-1, 0-4 7-AAAA). First pitch for that matchup is set for 5:30 p.m. in Dalton.


OF NOTE

  • Heritage is now 8-3 all-time against Sonoraville, including a 4-1 mark in region matchups. Thursday’s win was the first in three previous matchups in Calhoun.

  • The Generals suffered their first shutout loss of the season. Megan Crawford-led offenses have been shutout five times in her three seasons as head coach.

  • A six-game region win streak was snapped after Thursday’s loss. Heritage ended the 2022 season on a three-game region win streak before winning its first three games to start the 2023 region slate.

  • Bree Wilson finished Week 4 of the season with a scorching 5-for-6 offensive outing. She collected hits in five consecutive at-bats after a 3-for-3 game on Tuesday.
