Heritage Sweeps Friday Doubleheader

Sep 16, 2023

The Generals took down Wesleyan (2-1, nine innings) and Horizon (5-2) as part of the SCORE Tournament hosted by Gordon Lee.

Chattanooga, Tenn. - The Heritage Generals softball team picked up two wins in a Friday night doubleheader at Warner Park on Friday night. The Generals took down defending AAA state champion Wesleyan, 2-1, before topping Horizon, 5-2, in the nightcap.

The sweep improves Heritage's record to 13-2-1 overall. The Generals have now won five straight games and are undefeated to start the month of September.

GAME 1 RECAP

Wesleyan starter Macey Cintron and Heritage starter Addie Edwards combined for 23 strikeouts in a nine-inning pitcher’s duel.

Both teams battled to a scoreless tie until the international tiebreaker (ITB) rule was put into effect. Wesleyan broke through with a run in the top of the ninth before Heritage answered by plating two in the bottom half.

After Wesleyan’s Avery Tucker drove in the game’s first run, Brylee Pritchett singled home Bree Wilson to tie the game at one apiece. Bailee Hollis’ sacrifice bunt advanced Pritchett to third and brought Harper Carstens to the dish.

The senior would smoke a hard ground ball up the middle to score Pritchett and give Heritage a 2-1 win.

Edwards struck out 12 in a career-high nine innings pitched and retired 11 of the final 12 batters she faced. The junior allowed three hits and walked one on 123 pitches.
