Young’s Four RBI Night Leads Heritage Past Central

Aug 25, 2023

The catcher’s 2-RBI single in the sixth put the Generals up for good in the Region 7-AAAA contest.

Carrollton, Ga. - The Heritage Generals softball team downed the Central Lions, 4-3, in Carrollton on Tuesday night. The Generals were able to get key offensive production from senior Abbie Young, who set a career high with four RBI on the evening.

The Generals improve to 7-1-1 overall and 2-0 in region play. Central falls to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the region after dropping its first series to HHS since the 2020 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Heritage got on the board first for the third consecutive game after Abbie Young’s two-run home run in the top of the second inning. It is Young’s first high school home run and first extra base hit of the season.

Central answered back in the bottom half with a two-out, two-RBI single from Ragan Reaves. Reaves finished the game 3-for-3 while recording three of the Lions’ five hits in the contest. Lexi Warren gave the Lions the lead one inning later with a solo home run over the left field wall. The solo shot was her team-leading third of the season.

Abbie Young struck again in the sixth with her third and fourth RBI, setting a new career-high. Macie Collins reached base to start the inning and was sacrificed to second by Ella Blansit. Back-to-back singles from Jenna Ryans and Young were enough to give Heritage the late lead.

Addie Edwards earned the win in relief and improved to 6-0 on the season. Edwards fanned eight over four innings of work after Kelsey Anderson pitched three innings and gave up three earned runs.
